Black lace, red lip: the after-dark edit

This is the look for the birthday that turns into a story, the gallery opening you arrive late to on purpose, the dinner where somebody orders the second bottle. It starts with black lace and a red lip and builds from there: a blazer with real shoulders, a satin skirt that moves when you do, sheer black tights with a little shine, and red satin heels that make the whole thing impossible to ignore.
Seven pieces, and every one earns its spot. The lace is the mood. The blazer is the authority. The heels are the punctuation. Gold earrings and a crystal bag that holds a powder and a lipstick, and not your phone, finish it off, because tonight you are not answering emails.
Wear all seven at once, or steal two for something already in your closet. Either way, walk in like you were expected, and stay until they turn the lights up.
